Secret Police Files independent guide, not an archive

Privacy

What this site collects

Short version: no accounts, no tracking of you across other sites by us, and nothing you type into the request generator ever leaves your browser. There is advertising, and it is the only thing here that sets a cookie, only if you accept it. The longer version is below, because "we respect your privacy" is not a statement anyone can check.

01 / What happens when you open the page

Hosting and counting

  • HostingThe site is served by Vercel. Like any web server, it processes the technical data needed to deliver a page, including your IP address, in server logs. That processing is Vercel's, under its own terms.
  • Visitor countingVercel's own analytics counts page views. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device, so the consent bar does not cover it: there is nothing to ask you about. The figures are aggregate; they do not identify you.
  • AdvertisingThe site carries Google AdSense, which is what pays for it. This is the only thing here that sets cookies, and it asks first: a bar appears on your first visit, and until you accept, the ad request is marked as non-personalised. Your answer is kept in your own browser, not by us, and you can change it at any time.
  • No Google AnalyticsThere is none on this site. The only measurement is the cookieless counter above.

02 / The request generator

Your data stays in your browser

The generator is a piece of JavaScript running on your own device. There is no server behind the form. What you type is not transmitted, not stored and not seen by anyone, including us. Close the tab and it is gone. The finished letter is yours to copy, print and send; you submit it to the archive in your own name, and from that point the archive's own data handling applies.

This also means the site cannot recover anything for you. If you close the page half way through, you start again.

04 / Who runs this and your rights

Contact

The site is run by Péter Veszprémi (Polarisweb, Hungary). Email: peter.veszpremi@polarisweb.hu.

Under the GDPR you can ask what data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, and complain to a supervisory authority. In practice this site holds nothing that identifies you, so such a request will usually be answered by saying exactly that, and by pointing you to Vercel for the server logs.

No personal data about any third person is stored on this site. It names no living person, and it holds no copy of the archive's records.
